(Memory Cross) The Last Protecting Ward of Yamato 3

Story:

For one endless heartbeat, Shiro stared at her own raised hand as though it belonged to a stranger. She reached deeper—deeper—groping for the connection the way a drowning woman gropes for a rope—

No golden aura outburst. No cascade of molten light up her arms. Her hair did not change golden—remained black, whipping in the night wind. Her eyes remained black—wide, stunned, disbelieving black.

The bracelet sat on her wrist like ten small, cold, golden stones. Sealed. Silent. As if a door had been locked from the other side.

No—no, again—AGAIN—

Shiro drew breath to try again—

—but Bel had already drawn close to her. No dash, no blur of speed. He had simply walked, and she had not noticed, because her whole being had been drowning in the silence of a dead well—and now he stood directly before her, close enough to touch, looking down at her stricken face with the mildest of smiles.

He glanced at the raised hand. The nothing. And smirked.

"Depleted yourself, little miko?" he asked, softly, almost kindly. "Spent it all on me in the Ninth Hell? Tch—what a waste."

He tilted his head, red eyes ancient and pitiless. "Because my power, you see..."

His finger rose and pointed at her. "...is boundless."
