Urban legends: Shadow men. Part 3
Category 3: The Hatter. This category includes non-spiritual or non-ghostly beings and consists of two specific types: a tall, shadowy man and the well-known “monks” or hooded figures. They are typically solid and are drawn to specific people rather than locations. This category tends to stalk its victims, and light has no effect on them. Regarding the tall, shadowy figure in a hat, there are said to be two varieties: one wears a detective-style hat and is only ever seen standing still—it can simply fade away until it is no longer visible to the witness, showing no apparent reaction to the presence of people. Many who have encountered this type of entity report that it remains completely motionless for seconds or minutes, then shifts slightly before simply vanishing. The other type wears a top hat and is considered a distinct entity; witnesses often report feeling absolute terror upon seeing it. Some claim that this entity feeds on their fear and does not vanish, but instead walks away, just as any person might. Occasionally, those who have spotted this type mention that it may have red or yellow eyes—and that it can even blink. Witnesses state that it evokes terror, possesses a well-defined form, and may even attempt to make contact with people.
Types [2] The first type is characterized by resembling the silhouette of a monk in a robe and hood; these are not the most aggressive, as they generally dislike being “seen.”
On the rare occasions they have been spotted, they typically pass by without attempting to interfere with one’s path, or they simply observe from a distance. If you happen to encounter one, the most that might occur is that they are caught off guard, causing them to vanish almost immediately before your eyes.
In contrast, the “Hat Men” (or “Hatman”) appear as elegant figures dressed in black, wearing top hats and long coats. These entities are generally known to interact more actively with humans.
