Officer Javi had a reputation for being unshakable. He was the guy who volunteered to check the creepy, abandoned hallway at the end of the building everyone else avoided, the one with the broken windows and the cold draft that made the paintings rattle. He walked in slow, chest out, and announced to no one in particular, "If something crawls on me, I will scream like a bitch," as if giving the darkness a fair warning. Sure enough, something took him up on the offer. A single, ambitious cockroach made a dash for glory and tickled its way onto his foot. All that unshakable energy evaporated instantly. Javi let out a scream that echoed down the entire hall, followed by a frantic one-legged Riverdance as he tried to shake, kick, and negotiate the roach off of him, apologizing to the whole building in between yelps.
