A Moment Ahead-Pt 1 (Story✍🏻)

...."Tick-tock..tick-tock".....

"What's that sound? I don't have a clock".

Rhys opened his eyes with a start. Raising his head up from the table in front of him, He began examining his surroundings.

"Wait, this isn't my room. Where is this? Why am I sleeping at a table?" He muttered to himself.

Running his hands across the length of table in front of him, Rhys noticed a small, floral printed teacup sitting nearby on a tiny matching plate. A fragrance of ginger emanating from inside. Now realizing how thirsty he was, he took a small sip. The spice of ginger warmed his throat, waking him up a little. He stood up from the chair he had been apparently sleeping in only moments before.

"Okay, this is definitely not home. I'm completely lost."

Looking around at the unfamiliar room didn't really seem to answer any questions. The walls were a brilliant green, edged with silver ornamentation. Large silver prints of a hawk were on each corner panel of the square room. The sun shone brightly from several large windows along one wall. Each one framed in walnut wood, matching the table and chairs. Each window featured a mosaic of a similar hawk design. Their gazes felt piercing, causing him to shudder a little. It almost felt as though each hawk was watching him closely. He shook his head, his hair whipping back and forth.

"Okay, first things first. I have to get out of this room".

But before he could act any further, a knock at the door caused him to freeze. He didn't dare move or speak, his eyes locked onto the door on the other side of the room. After a pause, a louder knock came. Were they expecting someone else? More importantly, who was it?

Rhys's heart began to pound so loudly he could hear it in his ears. "I just want to go home.." he thought to himself.

One more knock, just as loud as the last. Finally, a woman's voice could be heard on the other side.

"Pardon me, I'm entering now".
