Its first purpose involves the reading of omens and fortunes based on the alignment of the stars. Its second purpose is the eradication of evil spirits and impurities that taint the land. People who practice this magic are called "onmyōji", and they usually have spirit companions known as "shikigami" that they can summon to assist them.

You are an onmyōji. In particular, you specialize in the eradication of evil spirits: a traveling exorcist, if you will. You're also a newbie, in every sense of the word. You still aren't even powerful enough to summon your own shikigami.

On your travels, you come across a backwater yet somewhat bustling town near the sea. You're not sure what the town's name is, but you're glad for the opportunity to find someplace to rest for the night. You'll have a problem to deal with soon enough, after all, and you might not get another chance to rest.
