A Moment Ahead-Pt 2 (Story✍🏻)

Before Rhys could find some sort of response, the door opened slowly. Peeking from the other side of the door was a woman. She stepped into the room, closing the door behind her with an ease that suggested she had done so countless times before. Rhys's eyes wandered over her attire, taking note of the frilled, white headpiece neatly seated atop her dark gray hair. A pair of half-moon spectacles perched on her nose, glinting from the sun coating the room from the windows. Wearing a long black billowing dress, with white lace hemming along the collar and cuffs. And her large white apron around her front. Clearly, she was a maid of some sort.

"Well well, it's about time you've woken up. But you aren't fully dressed yet? Just how long are you intending to keep M'lady waiting?" She crossed her arms, tilting her head forward. Her piercing green eyes causing Rhys to stutter before he spoke.

"Uhm..well, you see.."

"See? What I clearly see is that you've slept in. Your hair's a mess, your beds in tatters. You haven't even put on any pants yet. Why M'lady puts up with your laziness, I'll never understand" she spoke sternly, her cheeks puffing as she turned her nose up at Rhys.

Rhys blinked.

"Pants?"

His gaze slowly drifted downward. His brow furrowing before noticing the absence of anything covering his legs. For a moment, he simply stared. Then the realization struck him.

"Oh.."

Heat rushed to his cheeks as he hastily looked around, grabbing a small throw blanket. Covering himself, he looked slowly up at the maid, who was simply glaring at him.

"I..uh.." He pulled the blanket tighter against him, making sure not to let go. "I can explain".

The maid raised an eyebrow.

"Can you?" She asked, clearly not convinced. She shook her head. "I suggest you hurry along and put on your clothes. I refuse to explain to M'lady that you kept her waiting, lost in a daze half dressed".

With that, she turned back toward the door, leaving in a huff.
