(Memory Cross) To the Respective Battle 13
Sorry:
Euphy let all of it lie there in the grass between them, following each thread of it with her questions—gently, like reeling line—until she had heard the whole shape of it. Then she turned her head in the grass and looked at her friend.
"And do you still mean it? Here, tonight, with the war finally making the ending unavoidable?" Euphy asked, softly.
"To resolve this challenge—not to survive it, not to endure it, but to end it. Once, and for all of it?"
Shiro turned and met her eyes. No hesitation at all. "Yes."
"...Then hear my answer," said Euphy. And then she looked away—back up at the stars—and Shiro would remember afterward, that Euphy couldn't say it while looking at her.
"If I've sensed it correctly—and I very seldom sense wrong—" Euphy said slowly, "then to stop Bel, truly stop him, once and for all... you cannot end him here."
Shiro's breath stopped.
"You have to get rid of his unlimited power source. The thing that makes him unending. The Vesperia Heart—a power vessel, a well of essentially infinite mana, and it does not exist in this dimension."
Euphy's voice was quiet and precise, a scholar reading a map in the dark. "It exists in another dimension. And that dimension—"
She took a breath, "—is your home, Shiro. The modern Japan, the Beta world you told me. The world you came from. The world where Bill Ebonhart exists—the world the rifts keep reaching back toward."
