Moon | The girl I met at the lake (short story)

As I was going out for a walk one night on the edge of the village’s borders, I found this lake. The lake was vast; I swear it could’ve went for miles as I saw no end in sight. I settled there, figuring it was a nice spot to take a break.

I sat down at the edge of the water, dipping my feet in. Not too long after, I saw this glow appear in front of me. My view was obstructed from the brightness but after a while, it appeared to be a girl. Her hair was an ethereal white with matching eyes and dress. The inside of her hair sparkled a beautiful tint of purple. Her appearance seemed to make the entire lake glow. Now that I think about it, she looked a lot like Koneko or Lia. But it wasn’t her. Her aura was… otherworldly, like she wasn’t from here.

She stared at the water, hand on her chest, like she was reminiscing about something. She looked at me, slightly smiling, and started walking toward me. She bent down to my eye level and spoke to me in a quiet voice.

"Hello, old friend," she said. "I’ve finally found you again."

Her appearance was unfamiliar to me, but tears were forming in her eyes, like I really was an old friend that she found after so long.

"I was wondering where you had gone," she continued, "after our home was destroyed. I thought I would never see you again…"

She cupped my cheeks with her hands and took my lips in a long, gentle kiss. My eyes went wide, but as soon as she started kissing me, the memories came flowing through.

My best friend. It was her.

She disappeared while she was still kissing me. Even after she was gone, it felt like I could still feel her lips on mine. A single tear dropped to the lake below. I grasped the gem that hung by my choker and sobbed. I had no idea if she was alive or if it was a work of magic, but… it was definitely her.

Wysteria. I hope I see you again…
