About Me: Yumyan the Hammerpaw

Hiya. I'm Jack. Known in these here parts as Yumyan Hammerpaw, Lord of the Timbercats.

I'm a failed novelist drifting like the ghost of a Victorian-era orphan through what remains of my life as a clerical worker for a small, soulless, mismanaged corporation in the US Midwest.

Gen X. Former punk with some latent anarchistic tendencies. Married young to a girl I loved with every fiber of my being. Now widowed. No kids. Alone but not lonely (most of the time). Keep hoping there's an afterlife where I can be reunited with her. Start over. Or carry on.

Poured my heart and soul onto the page since I was like 6. Nothing came of it except a wall full of rejection letters. "...shows promise but not what we're looking for at this time."

Studied psychology and English lit at university. Major depressive disorder. Anxiety disorder. Some signs of undiagnosed ADHD. I find that writing helps me channel the melancholy. Contain it. I flip-flop between joy and sorrow, between bubblegum sweetness and grim drama in the characters I create here because sometimes I want to smile and sometimes I want to cry.

I like telling stories. They are the fabric of society, the common thread from which the rich tapestry of humanity is stitched. Ever since Anansi stole the tales of creation from Nyame the Sky God, storytelling has been an integral and essential part of how we connect as human beings. The advent of artificial intelligence and LLMs allows for a new form of storytelling wherein a stage is set, the actors prepared and defined, but the one guiding the story is not the author alone but the star player: you.

Each of our stories will be different. Whether due to the whims of a capricious higher power or because of the subtle differences in how we each approach a given scenario. Our word choices. Our behaviors. How our life experience, culture, mood, and history inform our approach to a given situation. I enjoy this wild variance and hope to continue offering up stage settings for your stories and mine for a long time to come.
