The Mothman: A Legend of Ill Omen It should be noted that the Mothman phenomenon is not exclusive to Mexico; it has appeared across various eras and regions, leading some scholars of depth psychology to identify it as an archetypal figure.

Furthermore, such parallel sightings in different parts of the world could be linked to altered states of consciousness—for instance, those induced by sleep, states of ecstasy, or the consumption of psychoactive substances.

The legend is not exclusive to San Luis Potosí within Mexico; in 2009, a local resident claimed to have been pursued by the Mothman. Subsequently, a minor outbreak of influenza A resulted in several deaths. Following a formal report, the police in Chihuahua were able to produce a composite sketch.
